Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax Wins Big at the Box OfficeWow. Dr. Seuss' The Lorax sure let everyone know who's boss. The animated family film surpassed all expectations to earn $70.7 million over the weekend, earning back its budget in a mere three days with the biggest opening weekend so far this year. Second place finisher Project X didn't do too shabbily, either: The R-rated comedy, made on a budget of $12 million, picked up $20.7 million during its opening weekend. Last week's champion Act of Valor brought in a weekend gross of $13.7 million, and rounding out the top five were Safe House and Good Deeds.
